Emergency Preparedness: Taking Priority Steps to Increase Readiness and Resilience

(Part 1) What’s involved in preparing for emergencies and disasters? And why should I do anything to prepare? Join us at the Greenwood Library on Tuesday, April 16 @5:30 where these questions and more will be discussed during this interactive presentation. Participants will learn about the importance of personal risk analysis, the important differences between preparing to shelter in place vs. evacuating and resources and information to assemble a personal “go-bag” and a personal kit for sheltering in place. All participants will receive a go-bag that they can fill at home. This program is designed to increase Sussex County residents’ understanding of management of emergencies and disasters and to promote readiness and foster a confidence in Sussex County residents.

It’s time for the 37th Annual Yummy Awards with your host, Guy Hollandaise! Will co-host Gina Cherry win the coveted Golden Ladle award for the 7th consecutive time? Or will someone else try to extinguish her fire to take the big spoon?

This will be a “flavor filled” fun evening with a host of famous chefs from New Orleans and other personalities in this spoof of all the awards shows we LOVE to hate! The paparazzi will be everywhere to capture YOU rubbing elbows with Julia Childers, Gordon Ramsickle and – oh my – the Swedish Chef and Justin Wilson!

Enjoy a delicious New Orleans/ Mardi Gras menu prepared by Dinner Express. Find your best Mardi Gras Mask and Outfit if you like and try to guess who the murderer is.

Tickets are $65.00. Each Ticket purchase includes buffet dinner, the show and 1 free drink ticket.

There will be a beer and wine cash bar to purchase additional beverages.

There will be a mystery gift card game where everyone is a winner to raise additional funds during the event.

Milford FFA Spring Plant Sale

The Milford FFA Chapter will be holding their annual Spring Plant Sale on April 20th from 9 AM to 2 PM. A wide variety of plants will be available for purchase including Begonia’s, Geranium’s, Petunia’s, and Vinca to state a few. Hanging Baskets and Vegetable plants will also be available for purchase. All proceeds will be used to support the Milford FFA Chapters Program of Activities. Milford High School’s address is 1019 N. Walnut Street Milford, DE 19963. Get together to read, talk about books, and do fun activities that go along with them on Monday, April 22nd from 4:00-5:00pm. This we are joining Longwood Garden’s community read and will be reading ‘The Secret Garden’ based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett and adapted by Calista Brill. The suggested age range is 5-7 and is perfect for kids who enjoy ‘older’ picture books whether or not they can read yet. This program provides an opportunity for young readers to develop literacy, critical thinking, and foster social interaction.

(Part 2) Where do you turn for information when emergencies and disasters are near? Who do you communicate with before, during and after those events? Join us on Tuesday, April 23 @ 5:30 at Greenwood Public Library for reliable information which is critically important when personal safety is at risk. This presentation will introduce participants to Smart911 and the Delaware Emergency Notification System (DENS) – both vital resources to stay informed. Resources will also include tools to help participants communicate with family, friends, and neighbors as events unfold and in the aftermath of emergencies and disasters. This program is designed to increase Sussex County residents’ understanding of management of emergencies and disasters and to promote readiness and foster a confidence in Sussex County residents.

Community Yard Sale Day

Greenwood’s Community Yard Sale Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 7a-2p. Rain date is scheduled for Sunday, April 28, 2024.
Residents are encouraged to setup at their residence. A limited number (18) of spaces are available for rent across from Town Hall. Spaces are 10x10ft and available to reserve for $10 each. This event is BYOT (bring your own tables & chairs) If you need one, we have a limited number of tables available for rent for an additional $5.
